More
Candida Höfer's (German, b. 1944) large-format photographs focus on the stillness and elegance within an "architecture of absence." Concentrating on public spaces, libraries, hotels, museums, concert halls and other buildings Höfer's unique oeuvre and the relationship she holds to these built structures devoid of human presence is striking and splendid. Candida Höfer attended the Dusseldorf Art Academy where renowned professors Bernd and Hilla Becher taught her and her contemporaries Andreas Gursky and Thomas Struth.
Widely exhibiting worldwide since 1975, Candida Höfer's work has been shown at the Musee de Louvre, Irish Museum of Modern Art, The Venice Biennial, Documenta, Tate Liverpool, SFMoMA and the Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin.
