Since the 1980's, Erwin Wurm (Austrian, b. 1954) has worked to expand the traditional notion of sculpture through, most notably, his one-minute sculptures, which Wurm then documents. Erwin Wurm's humorous yet causal explorations, often mixed with melancholy, irony, absurdity and ephemerality, have shaped his own brand of performance art, utilizing his viewers, himself or strangers on the street.
Erwin Wurm has exhibited internationally, including shows at the Palais de Tokyo, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, The Drawing Center, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Tate Modern.
