Jaret Belliveau graduated from NSCAD University in April 2006 with a BFA, majoring in photography. Jaret’s first major photographic documentary focused on his family’s daily lives. Eight months after beginning this project his Mother was diagnosed with cancer. “Familial Endurance” attempts to describe the internal workings of his family’s struggle with cancer. In 2005 Jaret was selected by the Musee de L’Elysee for an exhibition entitled ‘reGeneration: 50 Photographers of Tomorrow’. To accompany this traveling exhibition a book of the same name has been published by Thames & Hudson and Aperture. Since then Familial Endurance has also been published in two other books by the Magenta Foundation.
In the summer of 2005 Jaret received a scholarship to produce an exhibition entitled “Expect Delays”. This body of work documents a journey Jaret and his brother David took across Canada in the wake of their mother’s death.
Jaret’s most recent documentary follows a group of teenagers over a period of three years. “The Dirt Squad” will be featured at the Stephen Bulger Gallery this summer in a exhibition entitled “Recent Discoveries”.
Jaret has received many scholarships, grants and awards for his photography. He presently lives in Canada.
