Artist Statement
"The human figure is an iconic subject of interest and beauty, a record of unique experiences that have left indelible marks seen in the flesh and felt through expression.
The present is the culmination of moments by which past decisions and events have recorded themselves on the human form. I connect the subjects of time and being primarily through the discipline of drawing. Those investigations are further advanced through the medium of glass.
In the drawings there is a sense of immediate observation and recording. Overlapping multiple views suggests a progression through time captured at a certain point, which is the image shown. The properties of glass allow a tangible layering of the human form.
The image created from initial observation is transformed through a series of manipulations. These transformations effectively parallel the physical changes of a body during the course of a person’s life. The duration of days are distilled and compressed into a single living moment."
