Lee Friedlander (American, b. 1934) has brilliantly documented what he calls the "American social landscape." Friedlander has traveled across the U.S. and with sharp wit and a sense of humor, photographed vivid and poignant images of the everyday cycles in postwar American life.
Lee Friedlander has been the recipient of many prestigious awards, namely the MacArthur "Genius" Grant in 1990 as well as numerous solo exhibitions. In 2005, MoMA hung a major retrospective of Friedlander's works, the same year he received the Hasselblad International Award for photography.
