Rodney Dickson (Irish, b. 1956) grew up in Northern Ireland in the 1970s. These violent times inform much of his work, which investigates the wider toll of war on civilian life and its inherent futility and hypocrisy. Having frequently traveled and researched in southeast Asia for the past 8 years, Dickson’s most recent work concerns Vietnam and the American occupation’s impact on the population during and after the war. Through paintings, installation, and performance, his works reveal in different ways and layers the horrific aftermath of militant conflict. Dickson has exhibited internationally for many years, including a public work project at the 2007 Art Basel Miami, The Engine Room and Gasser & Grunert.
