Sanaz Mazinani was born in Tehran, Iran in 1978. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design her work addresses the photographic medium and its innate problems in re-presenting reality. She is interested in creating work that critically engages with personal mythologies on a symbolic level. She pursues conceptual and documentary strategies to examine the context in which meaning is negotiated with a focus on making photographs that circumscribe the conceptual and formal boundaries of photography.
An active member of the Toronto arts community, Mazinani has been involved in numerous exhibitions, publications, curatorial projects and arts administration. She has worked closely with CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival as Programming Coordinator and Educational Programmer.
She is the recipient of Ontario Arts Council grant in 2008 and Toronto Arts Council grant in 2006. Her work can be found in many private collections and she is currently collaborating with art writer Gary Michael Dault on her first monograph.
Mazinani currently lives and works in Toronto.
