An Anecdote From the Past: Not Found But Made

My aging process, which understands how things go back in time, comes from working on the movie sets of films and television commercials. These often required objects and surfaces to look antique, old and weathered. Many objects were miniature, some large for film. Taking surfaces back in time was crucial to know. It’s also from my painterly techniques and a passion that I have learned how to send things back in time.

Nocturnal Harmony for example, could have been done with a real book. The problem was finding such a large book and creating the windows. So I made one initially and then made a mold of it. The mold-making technology is one I learn from my industrial design background. I used it extensively when I entered the special effects field for the movie industry.

It is interesting to ponder if the book is real or isn't! The process in making the art is also part of the visual. In the musical art book, "Nocturnal Harmony," the small violin scroll on the left page and the violin fragment on the right page were both created by me. I truly love the tension between different objects combined into one composition and the timeless quality of working in 3D.
