Mark Eberhard received his first bird book from his grandparents at age five; since then Eberhard has been interested in and painting birds ever since.
Mark Eberhard's work deals more with the commonplace than the grand, with the bird often only one small element of the overall composition. An MFA from Yale University combined with a close personal experience with nature - its forms, colors and textures - form the basis of his paintings.
Born, raised and currently living in the lush river lowlands near Cincinnati, Mark Eberhard is at home painting the many avian species that frequent his bird feeders. Eberhard also enjoys gathering reference material during his travels and painting species not found in the Ohio Valley.
Mark Eberhard is one of a handful of wildlife artists incorporating the computer into his creative process, using it in the initial design stage to explore a multitude of variations of composition and color. Once Eberhard has finalized his design on the computer, he returns to the traditional process of drawing and then painting with oil paint and brush.
Mark Eberhard has won numerous awards both regionally and nationally. His paintings can be found in public and private collections from coast to coast including Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. Playing with the edge between photo-realism and abstraction, Mark presents a fresh approach to all of his wildlife subjects.
